“Don’t be an expert at one thing, be good at all things.”

- Ancient Samurai Saying

Master Booe’s Karate Kidz learn BuJuKaDo Karate, a curated blend of Karate/TaeKwondo, Judo/Jiu Jitsu, and Kali/Kendo. Along side these arts is a foundation in kindness, patience, focus and respect.

Martial Arts Styles And Techniques

  • The Samurai code held that anyone spending the amount of time it takes to completely master every aspect of one thing or skill, has misused a good portion of their time. This time is better spent acquiring proficiency in several useful areas.
  • With this in mind, I take a three pronged approach when teaching martial arts.
  • Grappling: This is a falling, rolling, pinning, takedown category that includes styles I have trained in extensively… HapKiDo, Judo, Sambo, JiuJitsu, and Submission Grappling
  • Striking: This is blocking, punching, kicking, and all the movie stunt stuff you think of when you hear ‘Karate’. The styles I teach from are Karate, TangSooDo, TaeKwonDo, and Muay Thai Kickboxing.
  • Weapons: This is sticks (light, foam ones in our case), swords (same… light, foam), and defending against toys or other things that may be swung at a child. These styles are Kali, Escrima, Kendo, and Pekiti Tirsia.

Character And Social Skills

  • One of the most needed things in the martial arts, that has been sadly thrown by the wayside today, is the development of an ethical code as a barrier to entry. All students need to have a standard of behavior and social awareness to ensure any technique learned will be guided by a moral compass.
  • Some of the foundational things I stress are life lessons, character development, and a sense of responsibility for ‘the other’.
  • My core teaching pillars are:
  • Kindness
  • Patience
  • Focus
  • Respect

This is what your little ninja will be learning in my classes. There will be self defense not fighting, activity not aggression, discipline not chaos, and character rather than selfishness.
